How to Pack for Hill Stations
Planning to travel to a hill-top destination? India has some of the most brilliant landscapes and is famous for it’s quaint, tourist friendly hill stations. The drive uphill is the most exciting way to begin! Navigating curves and esses as you acend into the clouds, the air starts to get cold and that fantastic winter chill begins to engulf you. This type of weather is extremely enjoyable as long as you make sure you are well prepared and properly packed for it. We don’t want to find ourselves in a situation where we are busy worrying about the temperature rather than having a great time.
Follow our guidelines on how and what to pack when jetting off to your ideal vacation.
Majority of our body’s heat escapes through the top of our head, so stay well protected with this must- have accessory! Make sure your hat covers your ears and is made of good material to keep you warm. To maximize space, while packing try to get one without flaps or extra embellishments which would cause it to take up too much space.
A good pair of shoes makes all the difference. Our feet bear the most brunt, be it walking, running, doing sports or navigating through rough terrain. Invest in a good pair of weatherproof shoes that will carry you through to the end of your journey, preferably in a dark colour. Dark colours do well to hide stains from dirt, mud or even slush from trekking.
A warm jacket is a must! Even better than a sweater would be a windcheater or windbreaker, which not only keeps you warm but keeps the cold air out. Yes, those chilly breezes are extremely enjoyable, but if you’re caught out on a windy night without your jacket, you’ll soon be running for cover! If the weather forecast warns of very cold weather, a scarf can be a very effective addition.
When packing your basics like jeans and t-shirts, resist the temptation to overpack. Of course we all want to have plenty of options with us, but most of the clothes we carry come back unused and still folded in the suitcase. So instead of lugging all that extra weight around, take a moment to think about whether you really need an extra pair of jeans which will weigh down your bag. Replace it with a pair of extra socks instead. You never know whether your feet might get wet, and keeping extra socks handy can be a real life saver!
Now that you’re all stocked up on the necessities, you’re good to go! Perfectly prepared to brave different types of cold weather, there is nothing standing in your way of having a fantastic holiday. Happy journey!
