Behold: The Queen of the Jungle!
Temple tree designs by Sunita A photo of Sunita Dhairyam Mariamma Charitable trust-NGO
Sunita Dhairyam stands out of the crowd, through her actions and her thoughts. In spite of living in Zambia, the USA and urban India, she still chose to make her home amidst the wilderness of Bandipur, a forest and tiger reserve area of Karnataka, making friends with the creatures of the wild, the villagers and the tribals. She is a local hero, lauded for her continuous efforts to curb the human-wildlife conflict. She has many feathers to her cap as a social activist, painter, designer, entrepreneur and tiger conservationist.
When she is not busy carrying out initiatives like vaccination of local dogs against rabies or promoting tiger welfare, she paints life-like portraits of the wild and runs her own brand of swanky, artistic merchandise under the name of ‘’Temple Tree Designs’’ consisting of a wide array of clothes, caps, key chains and the like. Her strength, determination and intelligence have inspired her to create waves of change.
Down below are pictures of her unique merchandise.

Unlike those who wish to just be entrepreneurs, Sunita’s Temple Tree Designs works for a cause: Mariamma Charitable Trust. This trust is another brainchild of Sunita. The proceeds of Temple Tree are invested in her NGO to create funds. The main aim is to save tigers and leopards, decrease the conflict between humans and tigers and to provide relief to the villagers whose cattle are killed by the big cats.
By initiating such a mighty cause, Sunita’s Mariamma Charitable Trust makes life much easier for all those around. She has also set up a clinic in Mangala village to cater to the medical needs of the local people.
For her brave initiatives, Sunita has been given many accolades, including being chosen as one of 60 women in India in a book “Women of Pure Wonder” an initiative by Vodafone.

It is a very easy task to complain about the state of affairs, be it of the inhabitants of the wild or the villages; but it takes a lot of guts, willpower and a fiery spirit to bring about change that benefits all those affected. With her loyal supporters and team, Sunita has become a hero in the eyes and minds of many.
The Serai Resorts is very proud to be associated with someone like Sunita Dhairyam and lauds her unvarying efforts.
